This was our second Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure event and it was just as magical as the first, only we were in way better shape last year :)!!! I can't think of a more special way to spend the day and that I get to do it with my daughter makes it the best! I won't give up on having the whole family participate so next year the Reese's Pieces will be there, all four of us! We'd love company!!!
Heading for the starting line...
Conner having a little breakfast before the race starts!

We woke at a very early 5am and arrived at the MOA bright eyed and ready to roll. We warmed up inside and then made our way to the starting line. This year it was a sunny 56-60 degrees at race time which was so much better than the 31 degrees we had last year. We were a lot smarter too, & made sure we were towards the front of the pack, way too hard to squeeze through the crowd to keep pace when you start at the back. We finished in 37 min's which wasn't even close to our 29 minutes from last year, Brie was so funny & said that next year we'll do somewhere in between!
Our proud supporters cheering us on at the starting line. Conner was cold so he "cuddled up" in Daddy's lap, Conner you are so adorable, you make my heart so happy - thank you Sherri for capturing this moment for me!
The racers, which were supposedly 8,000 in number this year which is up from the 5,000 from last year.
Brienna, me, & Sherri (co-worker & survivor) at the start of the walk, what a sea of people. Saw all kinds of inspiration, tutus, beads, hats, leg warmers, balloons, sun glasses, etc.... We'll definitely have to get dolled up for it next year!
Nearing the finish line!!!! Incredibly one of the most touching moments was when we came upon a whole fire department dressed fully in gear, including helmets and tanks on their backs. One of them said that this was the one day out of the year that they loose 70 pounds in one day, he was quite the joker but with the warmer temps they definitely lost a lot of weight. How inspirational and awesome to see them all there doing this together for such an amazing cause. The clouds just started rolling in at the end and the rain drops stayed away until after it was all finished, thank you Lord for such a beautiful day! The kids & my wonderful hubby treated Mommy to some yummy Olive Garden afterwards. Once home everyone took a well deserved nap, trying to shove a concert (Yep we had a blast the night before with Luke at the Sugarland concert and didn't get home until 12:30) in the night before and expect to be ready for the alarm clock to go off at 5am, not a good plan. Happy Mother's Day to all the unbelievable Mom's in our lives, you are extremely important to us!
